Chadoora, Jul 11 (KNO): Block Medical Officer (BMO) Sub District Hospital Nagam (SDH), Dr. Ruhi Iqbal, has clarified and termed the allegations levelled by a family from Nowpora Chadoora as baseless.
The family had claimed that their daughter was not given proper care during delivery at Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Nagam, which they say led to the death of the newborn five days later.
“The patient was admitted at SDH Nagam on July 6 and was in labor when she was referred to LD Hospital Srinagar. No staff member accompanied her in the ambulance and that the baby was delivered halfway and fell inside the vehicle, resulting in injuries,” the family had alleged.
“There was no nurse or doctor with our daughter in the ambulance. The baby fell during delivery and no one helped her. We lost our newborn due to their negligence,” patient’s husband told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
In response, BMO Dr. Ruhi Iqbal dismissed the allegations, terming them as misleading. “The patient’s attendants began harassing the medical staff when the woman experienced labor pain. They abused and threatened our team, including the duty nurse, making it difficult for the staff to perform their duties,” she said.
She clarified that the referral to LD Hospital was made at the family’s own insistence. “It is not possible to refer any patient in such a condition without a trained nurse and medical staff. The patient was accompanied by both a doctor and a nurse. The baby was delivered en route at Monchwa in the presence of medical professionals and was properly handed over to the team at LD Hospital,” she stated.
Dr. Ruhi further added, “The family’s false claims appear to be an attempt to cover up their own misconduct at the hospital. They know they did wrong, and now they are trying to shift the blame.”
She also said that the situation escalated the next morning when the attendants returned to SDH Nagam, created a scene, and tried to physically assault a nurse. Police intervention was required to bring the situation under control and a formal case has since been registered, she added.
The hospital administration has appealed to the public to cooperate with medical staff and refrain from disrupting essential healthcare services, especially during critical situations like childbirth—(KNO)
